Common name: Upright Maiden Grass
Botanical name: Miscanthus sinensis 'Gracillimus'

The 'Gracillimus' is a clumping beautiful grass, growing to 6'-8' tall and up to 5' wide. It has thin, silver-green long leaves that turn bronze with colder weather. It does best in full sun and well draining soil but is tolerant of sandy to clay soils as well. Does not need much fertilizer. It is drought tolerant once it's established. Flower tassels, reddish color, appear in late summer, gradually turning to silver. The grass can be pruned in late winter if needed. It tolerates coastal areas. Looks wonderful when mass planted or for borders.

The persimmon tree is a lovely deciduous tree that can grow up to 26' tall and wide. It can be single or multi-trunked. This fruit tree has brittle branches so do not plant in windy areas. The tree prefers full sun, well draining, fertile, moist soil. Leaves are simple, dark green, glossy and broad. Flowers are insignificant. Foliage turns yellow, red or orange in fall. Orange fruit ripens in fall and may be the astringent type (soft flesh and flatter in shape) or the non-astringent (round shape). additional names: Fuji Fruit, Sharon Fruit, Kaki Frui

Tufted Hair Grass

Common name: Tufted Hair Grass
Botanical name: Deschampsia cespitosa

The tufted hairgrass is a warm season, clumping grass that grows 10" tall with summer flowers that reach to 2' tall. This grass tolerates partial shade and heavy clay soils. It is good in waterside plantings and for mountain area meadows. This grass is a California native and is a beneficial insect plant. Flowers are insignificant.
