Italian Cypress

Common name: Italian Cypress
Botanical name: Cupressus sempervirens 'Stricta'

Italian Cypress is often associated with Italian and Spanish architecture, providing columns in the landscape. It can quickly reach 40' tall and 3'-4' wide. 'Stricta' is compact, dense, columnar and produces long, straight branches with dark green foliage. Birds use the conifer as nesting and refuge. It does best in full sun with well draining soil. It is drought tolerant once it's established. It is a narrower version of the parent plant.

Box Elder

Common name: Box Elder
Botanical name: Acer negundo

Acer negundo is native to much of the United States, Southern Canada, and parts of Mexico. The Boxelder in the United States can be found ranging from Alaska to Florida. The Boxelder was first cultivated in 1699. Although this tree is native to the United States it is not popular in the landscape industry because it is very frail and breaks easily. The Acer negudo is a sacvenger tree and is considered a noxious weed. This tree is fairly short lived, only living less than 100 years in age. The Boxelder suckers profusely and has an early leaf drop during the late summer.
