Pony Tail Palm

Common name: Pony Tail Palm
Botanical name: Beaucarnea recurvata

This palm-like shrub from the Agave family has a single trunk and grows up to 30' tall. It has thin flat leaves that can grow up to 6' long and only 1" wide. The base is large and distinctive; it usually looks swollen. Mature plants may bloom on a 3'-4' tall stalk. Additional names: Bottle Palm

Botanical name: Senecio mandraliscae

Kleinia is a spreading succulent and ground cover that grows to about 6" to 18" tall with florescent blue green foliage. The ice plant like leaves are long and slender.It is from South Africa and works well in Mediterranean gardens. It is good in most sun conditions and can take very little watering or regular garden watering making it very adaptable for garden design. It performs best with full sun and regular water. Once it is established it is very drought tolerant. It is easy to propagate as are many succulents. Any section of the plant broken off and dug into the soil will reroot.

Botanical name: Euphorbia tirucalli 'Sticks on Fire'

This plant is probably one of the most popular and well known of the Euphorbias, because of its beautiful, freely branching, vertical lines of deep green, mottled in the center with a zig-zaggy pattern of cream colors. Generally grows to 6' tall x 2' wide, but can get to be much larger. It does well in full sun in cool coastal areas, or part shade elsewhere in hotter climates. There is a red color morph with its leaves and stems blushed with deep reds and burgundies in color.

Botanical name: Osteospermum fruticosum

This groundcover-small shrub will grow 1' tall, spreading 4' in a year. It has medium-size green leaves with lavender that have a dark purple center. The flower color changes to white the next day! The flowers bloom in fall and winter but in mild coastal areas, may bloom all year. It needs well draining soil. This plant looks great on a hillside or in a hanging basket. Catalina Live-Forever

Botanical name: Dudleya hassei

Dudleya hassei is a succulent ground cover with gray, finger-like, swollen leaves that only reaches 6" tall but may spread several feet. Long vertical stems appear in spring, with white flowers. Hummingbirds love this plant. It does best in coastal areas in full sun and infrequent but deep irrigation. It prefers sandy, well draining soil. This plant looks great in containers and around rock outcroppings.
