Sweet Olive

Common name: Sweet Olive
Botanical name: Osmanthus fragrans

The sweet olive is a moderate-growing, evergreen shrub to 10' high. It is broad, dense and compact, with oval leaves that are 4" in length and a glossy, medium green color. Small flowers with a strong apricot-like fragrance are produced in the spring and summer. Some people have described the scent as a combination of Gardenia and Citrus which comes from the clusters of tiny cream colored flowers that appear in Spring and Summer. It's an excellent choice as a screen or hedge growing to about 10' tall and 8' wide. They do well in full sun with regular water and grow nicely with part shade as well.
