This fast-growing shrub has an upright, branching habit that reaches 12'-15' tall and 8' wide, with willow-like leaves that are 4" in length. Its foliage is bronzy-green in color, which turns a reddish-purple shade in the fall and winter. It has compact growth and requires full sun for the best results. Small green flowers appear in summer (are insignificant) followed by brown seed capsules. These capsules will litter a pool. Do not plant in windy areas or high fire areas. This shrub is drougb tolerant once it's established but will do better with occasional water. It can be planted in desert areas that are protected from wind.

It is tolerant of coastal and inland conditions. Most ceanothus varieties do not tolerate a lot of summer irrigation but this cultivar does. It also tolerates clay and alkali soil better than other varieties. It is hard frost tolerant.

This shrub will grow 1'-3' high and 4'-6' wide. It has velvety chartreuse (yellow green) leaves. It does well in full sun in coastal areas and light shade in warmer inland areas. It does best with well draining soil. This shrub is also used as a ground cover and looks great in shady dry corners of the garden. This plant lives for about 2 years. Flowers bloom in summer but is considered insignificant. Prune to keep it tidy. Considered invasive in some areas. Looks great with rocks, in containers or in hanging baskets. This plant needs regular watering when getting established, then only occasional watering. Fertilize in spring with all purpose fertilizer.
