Hameln Dwarf Fountain Grass

Common name: Hameln Dwarf Fountain Grass
Botanical name: Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Hameln'

More compact and shorter than the species, 'Hameln' has finely textured leaves that are especially lovely when backlit by the early morning or late afternoon sun. Soft, greenish-cream colored panicles begin to appear in midsummer, a few weeks earlier than the species. This grass works most effectively in mass plantings, but also can be used as an accent plant in gardens and in containers.

Nandina, Heavenly Bamboo

Common name: Nandina, Heavenly Bamboo
Botanical name: Nandina domestica

Nandina domestica is a graceful upright shrub that grows from 3'-6' in height. It gets its name from its bamboo-like growth habit. When thinned from the center it bears a remarkable resemblance to bamboo. It is best used in groups. It can be used in a shaded patio or out in a shrub border with full sun. An interesting feature of Heavenly Bamboo is the bronze color in the new growth when planted in full sun. It also bears clusters of white flowers in the spring.

 Canna

Common name: Canna
Botanical name: Canna x generalis

These lilies will grow anywhere from about 2-5' tall and have large dark green or bronzy green, paddle-shaped, large leaves with flowers that come in a variety of beautiful colors such as yellow, orange, red or pink and that bloom spring to fall. It prefers full sun (it will not bloom well otherwise) in frost free areas. It prefers moist to wet soil and will even grow in boggy areas. This plant resembles a banana tree but without the bark. Hummingbirds love this plant.
