Botanical name: Phormium tenax 'Atropurpureum'

Phormium tenax 'Atropurpureum' is an evergreen perennial. Big, dramatic plant composed of many swordlike, stiffly vertical leaves can reach 5' tall. Leaves are purple red. Flowers stems reach high above leaves, bearing clusters of 1"-2" blossoms in dark red.

The Mexican Fan Palm is a very tall, rapidly growing palm with large, fan-shaped leaves. It has a tropical look, and can grow several feet a year. This species is excellent for larger gardens and lining streets and avenues.

These lilies will grow anywhere from about 2-5' tall and have large dark green or bronzy green, paddle-shaped, large leaves with flowers that come in a variety of beautiful colors such as yellow, orange, red or pink and that bloom spring to fall. It prefers full sun (it will not bloom well otherwise) in frost free areas. It prefers moist to wet soil and will even grow in boggy areas. This plant resembles a banana tree but without the bark. Hummingbirds love this plant.

Coast Rosemary

The Australian Rosemary is an evergreen shrub that grows 6' tall and 12' wide. It has soft, gray green leaves and white flowers throughout the year especially in frost free areas and prefers full sun. This shrub is also drought tolerant but will look better with occasional watering in spring and summer. This plant is great in coastal areas since it tolerates wind and salt spray.

This medium-size tree will grow 20' tall and wide. It produces beautiful red or pink, fragrant blooms in spring and summer. Leaves are deciduous, dark green and grouped in 3 leaflets that can grow 6" long and 1.2" wide. Watch out for thorns on leaves. Large brown pods appear after bloom period, creating litter. It does best in full sun and will need occasional deep watering once it's established. It can tolerate temps to 20 degrees F. Prune spent flowers once a year to improve next year's bloom and keep size to your liking. Trunk grow crooked and has dark furrowed markings. It tolerates coastal conditions, sandy and loam soil. Limelight Strawflower

Botanical name: Helichrysum petiolare 'Limelight'

This shrub will grow 1'-3' high and 4'-6' wide. It has velvety chartreuse (yellow green) leaves. It does well in full sun in coastal areas and light shade in warmer inland areas. It does best with well draining soil. This shrub is also used as a ground cover and looks great in shady dry corners of the garden. This plant lives for about 2 years. Flowers bloom in summer but is considered insignificant. Prune to keep it tidy. Considered invasive in some areas. Looks great with rocks, in containers or in hanging baskets. This plant needs regular watering when getting established, then only occasional watering. Fertilize in spring with all purpose fertilizer.
