This clump-forming Yucca can also grow a small trunk up to 8' tall. Clumps will typically have 5-20 rosettes, although rare specimens can have as many as 70. Fruit is edible and banana shaped, 5" long and 2" wide. Flower spikes are often partially enclosed in the leaves from March to April. Leaves are stiff, bluish green, 1.5"-2" wide and 2' long. This is one of the toughest plants, with a coarse appearance. It needs full sun and well drained sites. More common names: Banana Yucca, Datil

Kleinia

Botanical name: Senecio mandraliscae

Kleinia is a spreading succulent and ground cover that grows to about 6" to 18" tall with florescent blue green foliage. The ice plant like leaves are long and slender.It is from South Africa and works well in Mediterranean gardens. It is good in most sun conditions and can take very little watering or regular garden watering making it very adaptable for garden design. It performs best with full sun and regular water. Once it is established it is very drought tolerant. It is easy to propagate as are many succulents. Any section of the plant broken off and dug into the soil will reroot.

Big Bend Yucca

This Yucca has blue leaves, a tall narrow trunk, and a spectacular summer display of cream white flowers. It is one of the most attractive tree Yuccas. It slowly forms a trunk to 10' tall. The young are usually unbranched; the older have a few branches. Narrow blue leaves can grow up to 2' long and .5" wide with a sharp term spine. This Yucca prefers full sun or very light shade and rocky, well drained soil. It is susceptible to grubs.Old leaves persist.

Murphy's Agave

This is a medium-sized Agave to about 3' tall and wide. The blue green to gray green leaves show striking bud imprints of the surrounding leaves. This Agave tolerates extreme heat and full sun with minimal supplemental irrigation. It is similar to Agave americana but with a smaller scale. A mature plant may produce green flowers; then the plant dies. The pups will fill in and mature.

Pindo Palm

Botanical name: Butia capitata

This slow-growing palm has gray green, evergreen leaves that are 5'-10' long and arching, almost reaching back to trunk. Leaves have teeth. Flowers bloom in spring and early summer but are considered insignificant, followed by round, yellow to orange fruit that is edible and delicious. This palm can reach 20' tall eventually, making it useful for parks. It tolerates urban pollution and poor soil. Plant in full to part sun and water regularly. Fruit attracts wasps and other insects. Dropping flowers are messy. Also known as: Jelly Palm, Yatay
