The California Fescue is a cool season bunchgrass with blue-green blades that reach 2' high. The violet colored flower stalks are 5' tall, appearing in spring and summer, creating fountain-like clumps. This grass is drought tolerant for sun and shade although it looks better with additional summer water. The California fescue is a beneficial insect plant. Plant on dry sunny slopes or on the edge of a dry creek bed.

The 'Marina' has gorgeous bark, with leaves that are smaller and not as glossy as Pacific Madrone. Its flowers are pink, borne in pendant clusters in the summer. The fruit is large, red and quite ornamental. The plant should be grown in sun to part shade, with little or no summer watering when established. The 'Marina' prefers good drainage. 'Pigeon Point' Coyote Bush is a compact, evergreen ground cover that grows 1-2 ft. tall and 8-10 ft. wide. Its leaves are green; it has white flowers that bloom in the fall but they are not overly dramatic. It is important to plant this ground cover at least 6'-8' apart. Otherwise they will overgrow each other and begin to pile upwards. 'Pigeon Point' is tolerant of ocean spray and is deer resistant.

This small annual (sometimes acts as a perennial) plant will grow to less than 1' tall and has light, small blue green leaves with gold and orange flowers that bloom in spring and summer. It is an aggressive grower and can get away from you in a residential garden space. Plant it in spaces where it is alright for it to roam.

Chalk Dudleya is an attractive succulent that slowly forms 1' wide and tall rosettes. Leaves are thick and chalky looking. Basal stem may be 2" wide. During spring and summer, silvery vertical stalks bear reddish flowers. This plant does well in coastal areas needing no summer irrigation. In warmer inland areas, this plant does best with afternoon shade. It needs well draining soil. It tolerates winter and spring irrigation. Plant at an angle so water drains easily. Great plant for containers, crevices, rock gardens.

This graceful, slender-growing pine has a pyramidal form to about 70'. Its needles are long and drooping in bundles of 3. The foliage is a blue-green color, maturing to a dark green shade. Needles can grow to 12" long. Flowers are insignificant. Cones appear in the spring.
