Common name: African Daisy

African Daisy hybrids grow 12-18" high x 12" wide and produce daisy-like flowers from spring through summer. These hybrids have lobed, gray green leaves and bloom in white, pink, red, purple, cream, yellow or orange. Arctotis likes full sun and well draining soil. It is drought tolerant once it's established.

The Ginkgo biloba, with its distinct fan-shaped leaves, initially grows with a pyramidal habit, but later becomes wide-spreading. It is generally not bothered by insects or disease. It slowly reaches 35'-50' tall and wide. It needs regular watering and more during hot summer months. Flowers are inconspicuous. Fall color is spectacular with changing color of leaves from light green with a yellow tinge to yellow.

This beautiful evergreen tree has evergreen, glossy foliage that is light green in color. The new foliage comes in with a tinted red color. Fragrant flowers appear in spring but are considered insignificant. Small black fruit appear in summer or winter. Eventually, this tree becomes quite large in size (50'-60' tall and 60' wide) so plant in an area with ample space. Bark can be dark or light gray or sometimes reddish brown. It is furrowed. This tree does best in full sun with moist, well draining soil. Roots can be destructive. This tree tolerates coastal conditions.

Lemon Scented Gum

Botanical name: Eucalyptus citriodora

This tall, narrow, open tree can eventually reach 75' tall and half as wide. It has a trunk that is smooth, white and "muscular". This attractive tree has evergreen, light green, long leaves with a heavy lemon scent when crushed. Small inconspicuous flowers appear in winter. Below a temperature of 25 degrees F, the tree will be damaged by frost. Eucalyptus varieties are highly combustible. It tolerates full to part sun, preferring acidic or alkaline soil. It can become drought tolerant when established. Not frost tolerant. Psyllids may attack tree. Leaves can be used for perfume and essential oils. Wood is can be used for tools. Japanese Garden Juniper

This groundcover-small shrub will reach 3' tall with a 4'-5' spread. It has small, blue-green, evergreen leaves. This dependable conifer is used for bonsai. It prefers full to part sun with occasional watering once it's established. It can also be used for topiaries.

A tender, subtropical shrub that grows quickly to 10'-12' tall, the Angel's Trumpet shows huge, dull green leaves and enormous, pendant trumpet-shaped, cream to white colored flowers in summer and fall. It has a sweet, heavy fragrance at night. It should be grown in sun to part shade, with regular watering. It needs shade in desert areas. This plant is frost sensitive. Prune in spring. All parts of the plant are poisonous. Protect from wind.
