Common name: Blue Fescue, Blue Fescue Grass
Botanical name: Festuca glauca

This ground cover/grass will grow less than 1' tall and has small, blue-green, evergreen leaves that are very thin and hair-like. Flowers appear in the summer but are insignificant. This dependable but short-lived ground cover prefers full sun in coastal areas and afternoon shade in warm inland areas. It needs well draining soil and is drought tolerant once it's established. Leaves may burn during the summer but trim in winter to keep it looking refreshed. Does not tolerate wet soil.

Eastern Redbud

Common name: Eastern Redbud
Botanical name: Cercis canadensis

This small, deciduous tree with a rounded head is covered with small flowers of a rose pink color in the spring before the appearance of heart-shaped leaves. It can grow to 25' tall with an equal spread. It has a low branching habit with a rounded form. During fall, foliage turns yellow. Eastern Redbud lives about 20 years. This is a great patio tree or for a small front yard.

California Fescue

Botanical name: Festuca californica

The California Fescue is a cool season bunchgrass with blue-green blades that reach 2' high. The violet colored flower stalks are 5' tall, appearing in spring and summer, creating fountain-like clumps. This grass is drought tolerant for sun and shade although it looks better with additional summer water. The California fescue is a beneficial insect plant. Plant on dry sunny slopes or on the edge of a dry creek bed.

Catalina Cherry

The Catalina cherry is an evergreen tree or shrub that grows 15'-40' high and wide. It develops showy white flowers in the spring and red fruit in the fall. It is resistant to oak root fungus. Geraldton Wax Flower

Botanical name: Chamelaucium uncinatum

This Wax Flower is a wispy, open evergreen shrub that grows to 4', bearing soft, needle-like foliage and open terminal sprays of Leptospermum-like flowers with a heavy, waxy texture. It is best known for its use as a long-lasting cut flower. This plant grows best with good drainage and little summer watering. It should be sheared after flowering in order to thicken the plant and promote flowering wood. If fertilized in fall and winter, the plant will not bloom.

London Plane Tree

The London Plane Tree is a fast-growing, deciduous tree that reaches a size 40'-80' high by 30'-40' wide. Its leaves are 3-5 lobed, with a width of 4"-10", turning yellow in fall. This tree is tolerant of most soils, smog, dust and reflected heat. It is tolerant of wet soils also. Exfoliating bark is beautiful, revealing a lovely winter silhouette.
